Hong Kong's flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways, which fell out of the top three in the World's Top 10 Airlines ranking due to mismanagement, resumes using Russian aerospace, or the polar route for them.

In view of strong headwinds and payload issues affecting our flights from the east coast of North America to Hong Kong, Cathay Pacific will be operating the polar route for flights departing from New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport to Hong Kong.
As we discussed before, https://flyingwizme.wixsite.com/kirkxwb/post/cathay-s-jfk-hkg-flight-detoured-multiple-times-recently, Cathay's JFK-HKG flight has to detour if they do not use Russian Aerospace. They abandoned using it since March because of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Unlike western airlines, who were banned from using Russian aerospace as western countries also shut down theirs to Russian airlines, Cathay Pacific was not banned by their government or Russia.
By doing this, Cathay increases its payload and avoids extended flight hours evoked by detours. This flight is also codeshared with American Airlines, as both are founding members of the oneworld alliance. However, American Airlines was banned from using Russian aerospace.

As a result, American Airlines was forced to suspend codesharing with Cathay Pacific on its New York JFK – Hong Kong flight, since U.S. airline-coded flights are also not allowed to overfly Russian airspace.
